The Synagogue

Synagogue can mean any of the following:

  • A building where people meet for Jewish religious services or education
  • A Jewish community, often lead by a cantor or a rabbi

Have you ever been to a synagogue? What happened when you were there? Here you can view What To Expect At A Synagogue: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9Z_gyc7yG_c

Homework (Choose One)

Make a list of different elements in a synagogue and what their purpose or meaning is.

Pretend you are an architect. Draw two pictures: one of the outside of a synagogue and one of the inside. Label different parts of the synagogue. What elements from the video would you include? Would you include new things?
